Hello Everyone
This is my first post here and was hoping someone could an answer a question for me.
I have my Grandfathers Elto Cub ( 4266 08632 on the tag )
I still use this every year to power a canoe when conditions exceed my muscles.
This year the motor ate the cork stop button that limits the intake valve upward travel.
I’m going to make a new one, but need to know how far the valve should open.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
MacAugust 6, 2015 at 5:14 pm #21604I tried one as a sailboat auxiliary, it didn’t have enough power. I then got an Elto Ace and it did a better job. Models with serial numbers greater than 07000 were built in 1941. Being light weight, they won’t take much abuse. Now over 70 years later they are treasured collectors items.
The Check valve lift is .050" – Valve spring pressure wis 28 grams – The Float level with the float chamber full, from the top edge of the bowl to the gas level is ⅝". Flywheel nut torque is 25 foot pounds. Early models used a Champion J4C, Later models with the longer thread length(in order to keep people from stripping out the threads) Used a Champion H10C. Spark plug torque is 19.5 to 20 foot pounds.
August 6, 2015 at 8:17 pm #21611WOW!
Thanks for all the information. Far more than I ever expected.I can now get this puppy tuned properly and running better.
I even have the wrong spark plug in it.Your Cub looks a lot nicer than mine.
Just one more question if you don’t mind. Are parts available anywhere? I don’t need any now, but you never know.
Thanks

August 7, 2015 at 1:47 pm #21643Thank you Tubs
I did notice the model number was different. Also my tank and carb are somewhat different than the one in the picture.
I’m going to use the specs provided to repair the check valve, should be close enough.
Thanks again

August 7, 2015 at 3:15 pm #21648I probably won’t be fixing it for a couple of weeks.
Just got back from a week of camping in the Adirondacks and am way behind.
Would appreciate if you could send me the lift when you get a chance,
And thanks for calling it a poppet valve, that was the term I couldn’t remember. Thanks
MacAugust 9, 2015 at 5:42 pm #21762I should have caught that … . . . 😳
August 9, 2015 at 6:21 pm #21763Tank decals changed yearly – about the only thing that did … . . 😆
Many Evinrude Ranger parts are interchangeable with the Elto Pal –
August 10, 2015 at 8:46 pm #21838Thanks to you guys again. That’s my motor. I really appreciate the effort it took you to get this info out here.
I will dig into the carb soon and get it back to factory specs.
I noticed the parts list just listed a spark plug. I have been using a Champion CJ8. Probably not the correct one, but it seems to work. Any suggestions for one that is being produced today? Thanks
