It had been a while since I threw a motor in the test barrel,
and I looked for an excuse to use it one more time before
it’s drained for winter. Therefore, I remembered a Mercury
I purchased in Tomahawk this past summer. Seller said it
ran. Indeed it does. Started easy, and ran nice, other than
the float initially “stuck”. Quick tap on the carb cured that.
It will need “gone thru”, but I think it has potential.
I’m assuming water should not be shooting out the port
      exhaust manifold though.
Would this just be a gasket problem, or possibly something
      more nefarious?
Have two project going already, so I must
finish one at least before I start on this one!

Good to know Dave! I saw some water blowing out the holes in the exhaust housing,
so though they were the tell tales.
