Hi everyone,
I am new here and new to vintage outboards.
I have what was sold to me as a Scott Atwater 7.5hp.
Cylinder case number is 463, no other I’d tags and the cylinder mite have been swapped in it looks newer no rust of scale..Bad stuff first
– missing choke (I can fad this with some good photos)
– one half of the swiveled/lift is cracked right through
– the spark end of the cylinder looks wired (maybe installed upside down)
Lower engine covers missing and pull
– bottom end seals shotThe good it’s old! Turns free
So what I’m looking for is an engine schematic, good info on points rebuild (I have found a site link coming)
Thanks in advance!!
Photos attached
top pull, missing stuff-not sure what
Choke or lack of
Side photo (spark plug points down??)
Case numberOh lower engine covers are missing, mite try to form a pair
September 14, 2016 at 8:53 pm #44033If it really is a model 463, that would be a 3.5hp single cylinder Firestone, made by Scott-Atwater. But it could also be a part number, not a model number.
I see it is a single cylinder with 4-bolt cylinder head. That would be a 3.5hp

September 15, 2016 at 1:30 am #44050Your carb should look like this :

https://s13.postimg.org/ynnqhkglz/IMG_1251.jpgLooks like, in addition to the choke mechanism being gone, the supporting bracket for and the low-speed adjustment needle are gone too.

September 15, 2016 at 7:16 pm #44097Thanks all, I have the head in the right way, with the head off it was very obvious it was in the wrong way due to the piston dish/deflection
I bought a rebuild manual online and should have time in November to do a full tar down.September 16, 2016 at 12:08 am #44116September 16, 2016 at 1:24 am #44125Mine’s just a straight push to choke. Spring-loaded valve. Apparently there were variations..
September 16, 2016 at 4:52 am #44133That drawing is of an AJ16A, not the AJ17A in your picture. I don’t think it matters much one way or the other. The manual says the AJ16A was used on the ’46 and ’47 Scott singles, but the Tillotson ‘where-used’ catalog says those motors take AJ17A. By now I don’t remember if the one I have came off a Scott or a Firestone..
