David, thank you very much for all the photos!. As the old saying goes, "a photo is worth a thousand words"! They will be a big big help in making replacement parts for the tilt mechanism and especially the steel collar device that locks the tiller handle up or down…….fortunately I still have dad’s lathe I should be able to make one and even do the knurling on it, but it certainly won’t be a five minute job! You may remember from a previous post of mine, that dad’s motor only had a piece of strap steel as a tiller and over 40 yrs ago I came across an original tiller but the steel collar parts were very rusted. In an earlier post I mentioned that I can’t find the Serial No. on the motor and again was wondering if any one would have any idea where it is located?
Your motor has a little plate on the outside of one of the transom brackets showing the Model and Serial No……..there is no evidence of any sort, that a ID plate was ever mounted on dad’s one? Thanks very much again for all you help!!
Kind regards
MonteNZNovember 13, 2015 at 1:34 pm #27019MonteNZ – I have a couple of Scotts of the same vintage. I will check this weekend to see where the serial number is located. As I recall, on some of the earlier motors, it was stamped on the leg or the transom bracket.
I am fairly certain that I have an extra tiller lock collar. I would be happy to send you the parts if you cover the shipping charge.

November 13, 2015 at 1:37 pm #27020MoneyNZ, try using our free classified section. You maybe able find a member that has a parts motor that would sell you the parts that you need for a reasonable price. Thousands of those motors were made in the US. The steel tanks suffered from corrosion unfortunately.
Please read the posting rules.
Can’t wait to see and hear you get your motor up and running.
Cheers,
David T.
November 14, 2015 at 4:28 am #27045Hi John Van
Thanks very much for your offer in helping me find where the Serial No. is located on my dad’s motor and thank you very much indeed for your offer of the tiller lock collar parts. That would be great!!Please don’t think that I am ungrateful, but would your one be in as good a condition as the one shown in the photos by Cajuncook1?
I would certainly expect to pay the postage, but would you mind inquiring the postage cost to New Zealand. Unfortunately from what I have heard, postage costs to this country from USA have increased quite a bit ……..one of the problems of "living at the bottom of the world"!The photo of the transfer on the fuel tank in my original post, was posted by a friend who knew how to use Photo Bucket. At this stage I don’t know how to work it,so would you be happy if I sent you a PM with my email address and I would then forward photos of my lock collar parts to you via Picasa which I am familiar with.
Looking forward to hearing from you and thanks very much once again for your kind offer.
Kind regards
