December 10, 2016 at 8:33 pm #5870Ok, I have a nice little 1947 Sportwin, model number 4416. Missing a couple of pieces that I’m having fun hunting down and I’m thinking of giving it a coat of point and new decals. I’ve seen what look like the correct decals but I’ve seen them in both blue and green, which is correct? I know Evinrude used a lot of blue but not so sure on the older models. The old decals are so grungy and discolored they look like they could have been either blue or green. December 10, 2016 at 11:32 pm #489774416 is a 2hp Sportsman. Decals are green. Here’s one:

The exhaust ports are clogged with carbon. The 4416 is a SportsMAN. (Fantastic polish job) Is anyone making those rubber prop nuts? . . 😉
December 11, 2016 at 4:21 pm #49005 December 11, 2016 at 4:21 pm #49005In this case, there was also a casting defect, one exhaust hole was half clogged from factory, and the finish of the 3 others was really rough. I guess this doesn’t help 🙂
I had to work on them 4 with a Dremel.
I suggest to take a look on other engines when they are in parts, in case they have the same problem.
Thanks for the polish 🙂 As usual, it’s even better in real than on a picture.Stock ports casting :
December 11, 2016 at 5:18 pm #49008 December 11, 2016 at 5:18 pm #49008I have 2 styles of the rubber prop nuts here in Ohio. One style I know fits the 50’s 5.5 style. The other style might be what you are looking for.
"if this makes sense", The other style is shorter. Also has a sharper taper. Also has a different interior design. It has a "rubber lip" at the very end of it. It would seem to fit the nut that is shown in the picture of the motor that is polished.
