Would like to replace the cork/ brass prop shaft seal on my KD15 (part #’s 27-196, 27-197) . Does anyone know what the modern day equivalent would be?
Also does anybody have any tips to secure the brass starter rope anchor (41A-314). Is there a special tool to crimp?
      Thanks,

If I am correct, the wire in the starter cord was soldered into the hook. You can use plain rope starter cord and secure the rope to the recoil plate with a basic knot to keep it from pulling through. That’s how I did mine because the fabric covering on the original starter cord was deteriorating and would jam the recoil.

I don’t know of a replacement for the cork seal. If I am correct the cork is tapered and fits into a taper on the bearing housing. I’ve never experimented with modifying that housing for a seal. I think I have a NOS bearing housing if you need it.

The tapered cork seal on my ’37 KA 37 was disintegrated so I turned the housing to accept an aluminum collar which also holds a modern lip style seal. I can’t find any pics of that project but here’s a Johnson 300 which I just did. It’s the same idea.

Thanks Jim and George, don’t have a lathe, but beautiful work. Funny was just looking at one at Habor Freight yesterday!
            George sent you a PM.

What Mumbles did is wonderful if the prop has the necessary clearance to accomodate the hub. When I get a chance to look at my NOS bearing housing and a prop I can then make a suggestion.

              Nice job Mumbles!
