      Hello all,

I was thinking about rebuilding the capacitors for this model and was wondering what Visha numbers to order by.
I also have to replace the prop shaft with a new one I have acquired. The threads for the old prop shaft nut have been broken off. Their is a pin holding the gear in place on the old prop shaft and I am not sure of the best way to drive the pin out to put it on the new prop shaft? I was wondering if I should heat the prop shaft up first? I don’t want to go banging around on something I shouldn’t.
      Thanks for all your help.

Other are qualified to speak to capacitor question.

I have swapped prop shaft gear on several projects.
Start by driving the pin out using punch and hammer
        Save the pin for reuse.
I use a 12 ton hydraulic press to force the shaft out of the gear…
be prepared for loud groans …gear and prop shaft can be very
        tight fit…lube shaft before pressing.

Once gear and shaft are apart….
lube the shaft and the gear lightly
align hole in gear with hole in shaft
        start pressing shaft into gear
Use punch in gear hole and a punch in shaft hole
to make slight adjustments to align gear to shaft holes
The hole in gear and hole in shaft need to line up
or the pin will not go in.
Pin is quite important to function so it is well worth
effort to get holes aligned to allow pin to be driven in.
It may help to grind end of pin slghtly to round the end.
Pretty fast and simple IF you have a press and a few odds and
ends plus the right size punches.
I will see if I can dig up old photos or pose some new ones
to illustrate what I may not have made clear.

Photos sometimes make the murky clear. First 2 photos show damage from hammering…a good reason to use a press

Photo s of set up is wrong
Gear should be teeth down to press gear on the shaft.
It helps to start press with the hole in gear and shaft aligned
as the holes come together the alignment can ge
fine tuned by use of punches in each hole to twist gear and
shaft to get holes lined up so pin can be driven in,

I did the research on the caps moons ago. Mumbles has current data on the Vishay caps. Hope he will see this. Please order axial type caps. I’ll dig up my papers on this soon.
I contacted Vishay directly & asked for a “magneto rated” cap & they referred me to a few mail order electronics firms.
                  One was Digi-Key electronics

Thanks all. Had a mechanic come over on a different matter had me grind down the shaft a little and cut it in 2 and drive the gear off. He also tightened up a wire to the starter on my truck (How embarrassing). Ordered the capacitors from Tubs post.
                      Thanks again.
