I was checking out the subject parts motor today.
Power head is froze up, and sadly, the gear case
as well.
I had a good powerhead from a Sea King (Gale)
That I thought perhaps I’d swap out and put on
the Elto Sportster but that was before I knew the
lower unit was froze up on the Elto, and it also it
has the earlier style magneto, and it’s missing one
coil to throw salt in the wounds.I don’t think that the universal magneto on the good power head
will work out with the cowlings on the Elto Sportster,
but further study perhaps, but the gear case is toast
on the Elto anyway.Under my “Gale Made Models List”, I don’t
see any mention of an Elto Sportster.
It’s either model # C2E7 or D2E7.
Who sold the Elto Sportster, and how come it’s
not on the model list?[attachment file=”268591″]

November 2, 2022 at 7:14 pm #268596The reason it’s not on your list might be because it was made in Canada. I think Elto production in the US ceased around the late forties but Canadian Eltos were built to at least the late fifies. Is there anything on the ID plate showing country of origin?

I’ll get my opti-visors out tomorrow and look at
the data plate closer.I wonder if there’s a model list for these motors?
Thanks!November 3, 2022 at 1:51 pm #268630Mumbles, indeed it’s a Canadian made Elto.
Say’s Petersborough Candada faintly
at the bottom of the ID tag.It appears to be somewhat uncommon, at least
around here. Too bad it will never go putt putt again.
Perhaps a few good parts for someone else’s though.November 16, 2022 at 12:35 am #269082My understanding is that in Canada Elto was the equivalent of the US Gale/Buccaneer brands

I guess “as was” the Viking products?
Was there any other unique brand names in Canada,
that were re-badged Gale products, that weren’t sold
in the US?November 16, 2022 at 11:00 am #269090Actually, it is on the Gale list—-sort of. Example: A Wards Sea king 49GG9014A is a Gale model 2W7 (W for Wards) and your Elto is a Gale model 2E7 (E for Elto), and a Goodyear Sea Bee model 025-3564A is a Gale 2G7 (G for Goodyear). Same motors with whatever variations such as cowlings, etc.
November 16, 2022 at 6:01 pm #269100Thanks Frank, good to know information, and If I run across a good Gale parts motor some day,
I may use what Elto parts I have that make it look “unique”, and build it as the Elto, seeing how it’s a Canadian “oddball”.November 16, 2022 at 7:07 pm #269107From my files

what it’s suppose to look like! -
