Thanks everyone for your literature, technical savy, parts, and
moral support in getting my Firestone running.

I have to fix the rewind again. The original rope must have been
one with a wire in the center, attached to a brass hook that hooks
inside of the rope sheave. A small knot pulls thru the hole, and
a larger knot doesn’t have clearance. Will have to try something
      else.
The cowlings are giving me a fit trying to get them on so the carburetor adjustment
knob and fuel shut off valve has enough clearance, but at least it’s running for now!

      Prepare to be boarded!

Try tying the larger knot and then heat it with a cigarette lighter and mash it flat for clearance.

Buc, where did you find the rubber parts? O-rings, seals, etc.? I have an older big cousin to your Firestone, needing renewal.

Gary, The seals I bought individually after measuring bore and shaft sizes, etc.
I look up what’s available at
              http://www2.chicago-rawhide.com/popup_p … 457010.htm

then just search for the cheapest source. The needle bearings all have numbers
on them that are still used. Amazon.com was a good source for those.
I bought an O-ring kit off of Ebay last year with a good selection of sizes…..
Has come in very handy! I lucked out with the coils being good.
Ended up using condensers for a 1970’s Madza / Ford that were the correct
              mfd. value.
              Good luck with your project,
              Bucc

Thanks Bucc, I may have to invest in a set of mic’s, although I haven’t quite given up on finding nos parts.
                I suppose I’m a dreamer 🙂
