Anyone know of close match for the Sea Mist / Sea Fog green
for the Johnson PO-15’s, in DupliColor or similar engine paint?
Reprotint sells it, but I can’t afford $100 every time I want
to paint an outboard.
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!
November 10, 2016 at 4:00 am #47237You could take a painted part with you and compare that with cars with a similar color. I was thinking Toyota prius may be close.
November 10, 2016 at 10:58 am #47239Years ago I used to buy Martin Senour Spray paint at Napa for my Po’s…. I think it was called Johnson Sea Mist green. i don’t know if they still make that color or not. Of course gas will ruin it if it comes into contact. If you go to all the work to paint it, consider a single stage paint from your local auto supply house. I had some mixed for my CC Commander, and it went on very nicely. Since I had very little experience in painting, I was impressed with how easy it was to mix and apply.
November 10, 2016 at 2:19 pm #47244I’ve dabbled with automotive paints, single stage, bc/cc, etc.,
but by the time you get all the required reducers, hardners, etc.,
it would be much cheaper to just order the paint from Reprotint.
Last time I had to drive 60 miles to find a Napa that mixed
paints anymore…. also a problem.Prepare to be boarded!
March 5, 2017 at 3:17 am #53837I have recently completed two 1946 TD-20’s which use Sea Mist Green Paint. I found an automotive touch up spray that matched exactly. It is duplicolor spray Honda Harvest Green Metallic. I purchased it at AutoZone for $7.99 per can. I used VHT engine clearcoat on top to protect from gas spills. It was $6.99 per can. If you try this combination, make sure the ambient temperature is 60 degrees or higher or the clearcoat will not dry fast enough and will attack the undercoat. I used Rustoleum gray primer.
March 5, 2017 at 3:56 am #53843Thanks Dr., your tip is worth checking out!
P.S.- just did an Internet search and can
not find the paint you mentioned.
Do you have a DupliColor number for it?
Thanks!Prepare to be boarded!

March 5, 2017 at 2:16 pm #53863Mumbles, Thanks for the info. Haven’t been able to convert
the BG15M into a DupliColor number. Found a "kit" on Ebay,
in Australia, for $99….. not what I was looking for!
DupliColor site is not cooperating for me 🙁Prepare to be boarded!

classicomctools@gmail.comMarch 6, 2017 at 2:54 am #53923To protect the automotive aerosol spray and make it fuel proof I started using aerosol semi-gloss polyurethane. I’ve used Cabot’s and Minwax. It is a mineral spirit based coating and the semi-gloss gives it a more authentic appearance. You must let the lacquer based paint thoroughly dry before applying. I’ve had good success doing this. With that said, please consider supporting Reprotint as they are a major advertiser with AOMCI and they produce a good product.
