Does anyone know the proper (or acceptable) reading in Microfarads for a condensor in 1950s OMC outboards? I’m sure someone has already asked this but I have no idea how to do a search

.22uf is the usual but…. uf is not all    it must pass HV  test because  simple  cap. meter or VOM   is not enough to  evaluate leakage

Thank you Mr. Crosbyman. How do I visit AOMCI Region 4?

Thanks again. I read some of this in some previous post which is impossible to find. Wish there was a search function. Somewhere I thought I read that acceptable values were between 1 and 3 microfarads but I’m now wondering if they meant nanofarads which in your example would be 210. Now I just have to learn to read the meter.

                simple..  220 nano =  .22 micro

Yep. Got it. And thanks to Bill Mohat for that fantastic article on Condensers. Best, straight forward, logical,  technical article that I have read in a long time. I’ll build his tester this week.

General industry rule is that paper capacitors have a tolerance range of no better than 10-20%.  That figures out to 1.9 mfd to 2.6 mfd if my math is correct. (??)
