I took the froze up power head of the Sea King today. Didn’t find any
signs of rust in the reed box, crankshaft, etc. Too dark to see
into the spark plug holes! Tried to separate the crankcase from
the cylinders, but could get no more than a hairline crack between
the two. Both rod positions were such that I couldn’t remove the rod
cap from either cylinder. Both pistons seemed "stuck" when I put
a wood dowel rod in the plug holes and tapped with a hammer.
Then decided to try air pressure (which never worked for me before).
I sprayed a bunch of PP Blaster in the plug hole, hooked up the air hose……
and nothing happened…… for about 30 seconds, then I got a nice "pop"
and about 1/2" separation between the cylinder and crankcase.
Still can’t remove either rod cap. Tried air pressure on the other piston,
but so far nothing has happened after 45 minutes. I have the windows
open in the house so I can hear in case she "Blows"!
I tried driving wood shims / wedges between the case and cylinder
with no luck.
Any other bright ideas besides "patience"? 😉Prepare to be boarded!

Words to live by in our outboard hobby!!

It will free up darn near anything.
August 27, 2018 at 3:41 pm #81890NJ, I have a gallon or so, of said mix in a bucket. I only tried on
some HD power heads that evidently, were beyond all hope!
Not sure the Gale 12 power head will fit in my bucket. Even if
it does, I’d need more ATV and Acetone, and / or a bigger bucket!
I have a free power head, on a non shifting model, to fix one of the two
shifting models up. Hoping to end up with two shifting models running,
but time will tell. The Sea King revealed a rusty gear box. Hoping
the Sea Bee has oil in the gear box instead of rust!
Thanks!quote NJ-boatbuilder57:Others told me about it, but I didn’t believe it until I tried it for myself: PB is wonderful stuff, but nothing beats a 50/50 solution of Automatic Transmission Fluid & Acetone. It will free up darn near anything.Prepare to be boarded!
August 29, 2018 at 7:13 pm #81979Hi there, not sure I can ask this, maybe should be in the "wanted" section, but I’ve been following your post and saw that you’re trying to build a shifting 12 hp Sea Bee. I’m desperately looking for a gear housing and shaft for my non shifting motor. If interested in selling the lower parts, please let me know. Regards, Dave
