I recently inherited a 1957 Crestliner Commander with a 1953 Johnson QD-14 10hp motor. I also have a complete spare that was stored with it. I ordered what I believed was the correct kit to rebuild the carb, but turned out to not be the case. Can anyone lead me to a rebuild kit, if they still exist? Or is this a situation where I have to source individual seals/orings and cut my own gaskets? Any leads or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

July 17, 2020 at 9:42 am #208883Thanks for the lead! They have a couple of the parts I need like the float and gasket. I emailed them about the seals/o-rings to see if they have them. I’ll post the info for future users when they get back to me. I Also bought a timing tool from https://richardsoutboardtools.com/, but passed on the coil locating ring. I am not experienced with these magneto ignition systems, so I am not sure how critical this tool is to ensuring the coils are positioned properly. There doesn’t seem to be very much adjustment in the coil location, but I’ll find out soon enough if it was a mistake on my part to not purchase the tool.
I installed new coils, plug wires and am waiting for my points and condensers to arrive. Hopefully I can get this thing running soon. Thanks for the help, guys!July 17, 2020 at 10:02 am #208887the coil is a fine tool but your fingernail will help to align the coil on the edge… just tuck in all wires as far as possible from the crankshaft
the timing toll is a great investment ….see video on timing not very complicated

July 23, 2020 at 2:41 pm #209560Was told today by vintage outboards that they do not sell a carb kit for the QD14 and don’t know anyone that does. Some of my seals had to be chipped away, so I don’t really have anything to compare against. Not sure if Napa will be able to find info, but that’s going to be the next place I go. Any drawings or other info on this carburetor would go a long way in helping me get this thing running.
