Put in a high bid on a Merc Mk 5 of $35 buck on an online auction,
not thinking I’d win it. Didn’t go to look at it before hand as it
was 86 miles away……. figured if it did turn out to be total junk
that I’d still have $35 worth of part there.
Auction ad said….. "Item is tested with compression and would
      need tune-up before use"
When I got it home today I did a quick "once over" and peeked under
      the cowling.
Would "Need a tune-up" mean that the carb is not included? 😯
They failed to mention too that the lower unit had been welded up at
      one time albeit professional looking.
Good news is, it does turn over with compression!
Did I get my $38.40 worth?

I can’t see the pictures but you will be fine for being only 35 bucks into it.

Mike, I used to have the same problem, but finally bucked up,
                and glad of it! 🙂

We ran twin Mk-5’s last Monday night on the 14′ Lund. Lots of fun to run twins. These are wonderful running motors, but they have poor sealing lower units. The biggest issue with them is freeze damage to the lower units due to water intrusion. They take some learning to get the hang of them, but once dialed in, they are really nice motors. I may have a carburetor for one also, but am going to be away for some time before I can confirm it. There are usually lots of parts available for them as so many have had lower unit failures so there are a lot that have been parted out.

                    20Mercman, I was given a carb from a Super 5, but haven’t had a chance
to see if it’s the same as a Mark 5 carb. Anyone know?
                    Thanks!

The Merc spec sheet shows AJ30B for the Mark 5 but the Super 5 is not included.

Hope this helps. JW in Dixie

Thanks JW, will see if my carb has a number.
