Good luck on the gearcase. They are hard to find. Took me a long time to find my super 5 motor. Great fishing motor. Have a KF3 one cylinder. Haven’t built it yet. Fun except replacing the lower crankcase seal, It’s a job to get correct! Total teardown!!!
October 7, 2015 at 4:20 pm #25269Looked at the Super 5 carb I was given, and it’s an
AJ30A. Wonder what’s the difference between the
AJ30B I’m suppose to have, and if it’ll work?
Disassembled what I could today, and have it soaking
in pinesol. Throttle shaft froze up…. may need a little
heat.quote jw in dixie:The Merc spec sheet shows AJ30B for the Mark 5 but the Super 5 is not included.Hope this helps. JW in Dixie

October 8, 2015 at 9:44 pm #25315Cleaned up the Super 5 carb, and am now trying to reassemble it.
Only been apart two days, so one would think I’d remember
how everything went 🙁
Not 100% sure of the orientation of the throttle valve (butterfly).
It’s not exactly round or oval, but kind of heart shaped I think.
There’s a little line stamped in the butterfly. Is that an orientation mark?
Also, the choke shutter spring has me stumped regarding
what it "hooks" on?
Anyone have an actual photo of one of these carbs?
My parts diagram doesn’t help much!
Thanks!Prepare to be boarded!

October 8, 2015 at 11:41 pm #25321Reassemble in reverse order…it has been a while but if I recall correctly you install spring and shaft then shutter…shutter can be installed several ways only one of which is right
sort of thing. Tricky little job inspite of the very few parts involved.
Once you get it together refrain from taking them apart in future.
Spray carb cleaner and check/repair/replace float probably sufficient for 90% and the other
10% you should avoid on general principles.
LouisOctober 9, 2015 at 1:22 am #25323Dave, sage advice on taking photos. I took a hundred or so when I tore apart the Mark 6, but this carb looked so simple!
I think I got it all back together correctly now after much fiddling and
experimentation!

October 9, 2015 at 1:28 am #25325Anonymousthe spring lays on the front of the shutter BUT the end for the rod goes thru the slot to the back. sounds confusing.
