I have noticed in other topic people using 1962 63 10 hp parts in the 10 hp QD 14 what parts can be used and how did it work out for them

January 26, 2025 at 10:09 am #293673Came across this motor in my travels. Looks similar. Not a student of this area of the hobby. Must be smaller hp. as it doesn’t have the twist throttle. The tins look to be in good condition, but I suspect mechanically its a parts motor. I tried to pull it over. Even the recoil was frozen. You sure did an outstanding job on your motor Dale.
A "Boat House Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
January 26, 2025 at 12:39 pm #293690Hey Tubs –
The motor in your photos looks like a 10 HP model QD made a year before the twist-throttle version. I have one. If you flip that little lever to the left of the tiller-hinge (look in your last photo), then lifting the tiller up and down will move the carb throttle plate open and shut, but not move the spark advance. If you look close, you will see the word “ON” cast into that lever. When it’s flipped the other way, the word “OFF” on the other side of it shows toward the driver, and raising/lowering the tiller has no effect on speed. A crude beginning for the tiller-throttle.

January 26, 2025 at 4:19 pm #293692Sorry ’56 if we are taking over your posting! Thanks guys for the kind words. It is really not that hard to bring these old kickers back to life. Especially if they are not too far gone. Tubs pictures of that old Johnson could be a ’49/50/51/52. I also have a ’51 and that old baby has a long story as all of these motors usually do! I need to get this kicker out this year. Summers need to be longer!
