What is the stock prop that came on a 1955 25 hp Johnson?

Scott my 25 has a amc (aqua master cushioned) #380 brass propeller.  I think it is a 10″ diameter x10″pitch.  amc 381 is a 10×12 propeller my ’53 has that one on it.   I think brass props were very popular back then.   The propeller used on those 50’s motors were used for many years.  Your motors propeller would depend on how big the boat was that it was pushing.

Thanks Steve obviously they came with aluminum!  I have three of those brass buggers.  Maybe I should sell them for scrap!

I think you’re right though Dale. I remember seeing a lot of brass props being used on those kinds of motors. When I first got into this hobby I remember even getting a few 18’s that the previous owner put a brass prop on. They don’t seem to show up too much anymore.

Original part number as shown in the 1955 RD-17 parts list was 375790 (#40).  That number seems to have gotten lost in the dustbin of history.

Found it in the dustbin of history (1963 parts price book).  375790 was superseded by 277581.  Then 277581 was superseded by

                  “Use (1) 378580 Propeller, (1) 304575 Drive Pin, (1) 304576 Thrust washer, and (1) 376731 Prop Nut.

All this was because the original rubber cushion hub and brass SHEAR pin was replaced by a rubber “Slip Clutch” hub with a stainless steel DRIVE pin.  Competition y’know from the folks that advertised “No Shear pin”.

                  steveD’s chart above shows 378580 as being 10-3/8 x 12-1/2.
