I would like some suggestions on the process of removing the drive shaft and bearings from the lower unit of a 1955 Mercury Mark 5.
The prop shaft and related parts have been removed from the housing. The pinon gear, the pinion gear bolt and washer have been removed from the drive shaft. There is something called a bearing spacer p/n A-23-22761 that looks like it must be removed but there are no clues as to how that is done.
Any suggestions on removal of this drive shaft would be appreciated.
      Thanks,
      Rex Perry

You might get some help from the folks at oldmercs.com (they’ll certainly be happy to sell you the seals and impeller!).

Try mercGuy.com. Bob Grubb is not only super-helpful, he’s one of our members.
