60 years ago, I could have told you the differences, and why, but that was then. But prowling around some parts books. I find 303720 for 1955 25hp, 304378 for 1957 18hp, and 304379 for ?

I took the power head off and now have access to the linkage of the upper shift rod. I have determined that the holes on #24 are elongated.
I noticed that “kit” comes with a wave washer. The parts list does not show a wave washer .Nor was there a wave washer originally. If was to use the wave washer. (Maybe the wave washer would tight things up a bit) Where would it go?????

I would put the washer on the pin, then insert the pin in the clevis thingy.
