Paint isn’t too bad.  Pump is working beautifully.  Water slobbering out where it isn’t supposed to is no problem.  There is a seal of sorts, that is supposed to prevent that, but they aren’t very effective.  That water was heading back to the sea anyway.  Hard starting when warm is a classic symptom of a bad (cracked) coil.  Have you checked that?   EDIT:  Oops, I see you’ve replaced the coil, so it ain’t that.

Hey, so far so good.  It’s a keeper.

Not really “custom”, it is that way to reach through the recoil starter housing.

Frank, I love that lineup of Buccaneers!
I guess I never had one as new as yours with
the long filler neck. Makes sense now after
            looking at yours!

I have never seen so many at one time. They are pretty good motors. I once sold a guy in Sweden an impeller. he was tickled he could run it again. His looked like the one 3rd from the right

I’m still trying to figure out why this thing is so hard to start.  I mean 20+ pulls hard when its cold and that’s the easiest its been to start without using starter fluid.  Starter fluid started it right up the one time I used it.  The first time I ran it, restarted hot easily, yesterday didn’t want to start hot. Could I have weak spark somehow?  (bad new ignition parts?)  I wondered about what looks like a chip on the back of the new coil (it came that way).  Anyone see anything wrong with my assembly? New BRP everything except the plug wire which is supposed to be copper core. Points set at 0.020 and I lightly sanded them.

There doesn’t seem to be much to go wrong with the carb, I can see some fuel come out the jet when I hold down the carb float so it is getting some fuel.

Also, fuel shutoff valve on tank is leaking a drip every few seconds and the packing nut is as tight as it goes.  Any repair ideas on that?

Old ignition and my new one pictured below.  Engine is so hard to start as to not be useable.

Are the points new or reconditioned? How did you set the points? to the center of the word “top” or to the center of the flywheel key?

It does sound like it is starving for fuel

And are you sure the air gap between the flywheel and coil is correct?

Whoa, it looks like something has been dragging on the coil and rubbed through the insulation.  Perhaps one of the three screws in the center of the flywheel or too-long puller bolts (??)  anyhoo, my thought is it may be arcing through the damaged area.  You say it came that way.  Well, somebody else may have damaged it and returned it.
