Hi frandr, I have what I believe is a 1956 5 1/2 horse CD13 and was wondering if the Viking Manuel you suggested to mikekolbus would work as well with the motor I have. Thanks.

Are you looking for a owner, parts or service manual. Even though mid 50’s Gale, Evinrude, Johnson shared some common parts, it is preferred to use make specific service manual.
Cheers,

November 7, 2020 at 10:03 am #220292I’m looking for parts and owner’s manuals, mainly parts manual for the exploded views. I have the red book but it doesn’t have much that I can tell on CD13s. It mainly covers CD12s. Is the CD12 the same as a CD13 for parts and repair?

November 8, 2020 at 9:47 am #220365I have a broken ear on the carry handle which the tiller-throttle are attached to. I will need a replacement handle and all the tiller-throttle parts as the original owner mounted a jerry rigged throttle and steered with the carry handle. As far as I can tell I will have to remove the powerhead to replace these parts and I have never done that so it is a little intimidating to me. The parts manual would be most helpful.

November 8, 2020 at 3:27 pm #220384The Viking manual that I previously linked to will work for the parts you need. The Viking and Johnson are the same in that respect.

I’m sure i have the parts if you are interested in me digging them out .November 8, 2020 at 3:52 pm #220385wel l removing the power head is not complicated all all 7 bolts to unscrew , a hose and a linkage see video you will need top pull the PH anyway to do the impeller
carefull not to break the base gasket under the PH

November 8, 2020 at 8:04 pm #220404Here’s a ’57 CD 14 parts manual for you. It will be almost identical to your ’56 CD 13 except for some minor items. The Gales are similar to the ’54 – ’55 CD models which used spring suspension instead of the ’56 and later rubber suspension and they also use a different style base gasket than the ’56 and up motors. There are also different driveshaft lengths between them and the Gale powerheads were headless, something like the Mercs. Enjoy!
