I appreciate all the help here. But if someone could point me to a Sierra parts # cross reference I could look up part #’s myself.

Also if  1958 Johnson models would use alot of the same parts I can use Marineengine.com.

Anyway i need parts #’s for Points  , Condensers , and Mags for this 1956 J. im trying to restore.

Thank you much for your help.

Points #580148;  condensers #510173 replaced by #580321;   coils #580118 replaced by #584477.    These numbers are the same for the ’56 and ’58 Johnson QD motors.   The marineengine site will give you the corresponding Sierra numbers for each piece.    You should know lots of us have experienced trouble with proper fitting of the Sierra point sets and the new BRP point sets aren’t much better.   If you can possibly salvage your existing point sets with a good cleaning you would probably be better off.

Also, here’s a link to a Sierra catalog showing typical tune-up and service parts all the way back to your ’56 Johnson.   Just enter the model number, year and hp at the top of the page.

I wish I had back all the decent points I’ve replaced! Who knew?

If you plan to refurbish the ignition may as well go all the way and install new solid strand copper  7mmm ignition wire available at small motor shops, Amazon, NAPA, motor bike shops.

Original OMC points will have this mark. I always clean, polish and re-use originals rather than trust the aftermarket or the others as mentioned.
