      After sanding the head down per Garry’s post and replacing the blown head gasket, it started on the 3rd pull and runs great! The head corners where the bolt holes are needed quite a lot of material removed – maybe the bolts were over-torqued in the past and it bent those corners in. I did the sanding on top of an old table saw with a heavy duty, very flat, steel top.
