      Good Morning

Working on a 1957 javelin and had to replace the ignition switch as it came with no key.  When I was starting to run through things I realized that the orgiginal push button choke was removed and had been hooked up directly with the key switch. I think this feed power continously to the choke solinoid which appears to be burnt out.

So a couple of questions, any way that the solinoid can be repaired? and if not is there something to replace it with or is it not possible?  in that case I guess i have to track down a used unit that works, assuming that the solinoid was likely used on various motors in the late 50’s and perhaps into the early 60’s?

Thanks for any advise or guideance

If it is burnt out as you suppose, then it is toast.  But take heart, those things were used for lots of years, and I would think there should be lots of them around.  Just be aware that pre-1956 are 6 Volt.

Thanks Frank for the info and the tip pre 1956 on the voltage.  Have a great day.

Actually, 1956 and earlier were 6 volt solenoids. I know they used that 12 volt choke # 376806 from 1957 through 1959 but I’m not sure if it was used after 1959.

Aw heck, they were used on12V, 28hp 33hp, 35hp, up through  some 40hp ups into the 1970’s at least.  Also 18-20-25hps same time period.  Also Gale-built motors.  Lets just say if mounts similarly and doesn’t have an automatic choke that would be it.  I guess it was used on some V-4’s too.
