I have a chance to pick this up for $ 50.00. Assuming it is in sound shape is it worth it?
Any known issues with it
parts hard to find?February 6, 2019 at 11:40 am #166133power head needs to be pulled to change the impeller
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVOedhzPP7Mwhile at it check the carbon seal and plate on top of the drive shaft
may need conversion to a pump if the tank is leaking and canT find a replacement cheaper than the motor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtG4M7ye1N8electricals need new coils likely and points etc…
etc… looks lie a lot but….. not overly difficult btw carb will need a good cleaning and maybe a new float

February 6, 2019 at 1:07 pm #166139IMHO, it’s worth 50 bucks all day long if it’s decent but be ready to invest in new coils for it if it still has the originals. New points, a carb kit, water pump kit, and other expendables will add to the initial investment so be prepared. If it includes the original small pressure tank, 50 bucks is a no brainer.
February 6, 2019 at 3:11 pm #166145No pressure tank but it’s in decent shape. Somethings wrong with the pull start (it doesn’t engage) so I cant turn the motor over. A little concerned about that.

as for starter engagement…. take it apart clean and reinstall dry
when doing the impeller with the power head off check the carbon seal and plate on top of the drive shaft
come back for more question as you go along !!

February 6, 2019 at 3:30 pm #166151Put it in gear and turn the prop see if it turns over …. any motor that turns over I can get it running again is worth $50 😏
Rotary valve Johnson’s Rule!
February 6, 2019 at 9:31 pm #166213Doesn’t turn over in gear. Lot of play in the prop though, I’m thinking it’s the lower unit.
You don’t happen to have a service manual for this do you?
