I have a chance to pick this up for $ 50.00. Assuming it is in sound shape is it worth it?
Any known issues with it
parts hard to find?

IMHO, it’s worth 50 bucks all day long if it’s decent but be ready to invest in new coils for it if it still has the originals. New points, a carb kit, water pump kit, and other expendables will add to the initial investment so be prepared. If it includes the original small pressure tank, 50 bucks is a no brainer.

No pressure tank but it’s in decent shape. Somethings wrong with the pull start (it doesn’t engage) so I cant turn the motor over. A little concerned about that.

Put it in gear and turn the prop see if it turns over …. any motor that turns over I can get it running again is worth $50 😏

Doesn’t turn over in gear. Lot of play in the prop though, I’m thinking it’s the lower unit.

Thanks Guys. Something is seized up but I dont know if it’s the lower unit or the powerhead. I pulled the plugs and looked at the cylinder and pistons (what I could see) and it looked brand new. The whole motor is in great shape, I am surprised I cant get it moving.
I am going to pull the powerhead and determine if its that or the lower unit. Stay Tuned!!
It’s such a great looking motor I really want to get this figured out.

Have you drained the gearcase? Perhaps the gearcase is seized up, or the driveshaft shock spring has sprung binding up the gearcase….February 9, 2019 at 8:36 pm #166477

That has a Nylon starter paul that may break. It is common for the clutch below the water pump to expand and cause the drive shaft to lock up. I don’t have the Johnson parts book but most Evinrude Fisherman / Fleetwin parts are interchangeable. I hope this helps . . .
