I have a chance to pick this up for $ 50.00. Assuming it is in sound shape is it worth it?
Any known issues with it
parts hard to find?February 6, 2019 at 11:40 am #166133
power head needs to be pulled to change the impeller
while at it check the carbon seal and plate on top of the drive shaft
may need conversion to a pump if the tank is leaking and canT find a replacement cheaper than the motor
electricals need new coils likely and points etc…
etc… looks lie a lot but….. not overly difficult btw carb will need a good cleaning and maybe a new float
nice book to read and helpful … it covers what you need to know and do
gearcase reseal may be needed easy job ..
go for it…. if compression #s is 70’s and upwards

IMHO, it’s worth 50 bucks all day long if it’s decent but be ready to invest in new coils for it if it still has the originals. New points, a carb kit, water pump kit, and other expendables will add to the initial investment so be prepared. If it includes the original small pressure tank, 50 bucks is a no brainer.

No pressure tank but it’s in decent shape. Somethings wrong with the pull start (it doesn’t engage) so I cant turn the motor over. A little concerned about that.February 6, 2019 at 3:24 pm #166148
all the info you need +++
as for starter engagement…. take it apart clean and reinstall dry
when doing the impeller with the power head off check the carbon seal and plate on top of the drive shaft
come back for more question as you go along !!

Put it in gear and turn the prop see if it turns over …. any motor that turns over I can get it running again is worth $50 😏

Doesn’t turn over in gear. Lot of play in the prop though, I’m thinking it’s the lower unit.
You don’t happen to have a service manual for this do you?February 6, 2019 at 11:44 pm #166220February 6, 2019 at 11:46 pm #166222

I’ve had the same problem with certain websites. If you were trying to direct him to the online service manual, I uploaded one and a condensed version good to download for a week at this link – https://we.tl/t-lrHeUotPNM

Thanks Guys. Something is seized up but I dont know if it’s the lower unit or the powerhead. I pulled the plugs and looked at the cylinder and pistons (what I could see) and it looked brand new. The whole motor is in great shape, I am surprised I cant get it moving.
I am going to pull the powerhead and determine if its that or the lower unit. Stay Tuned!!
It’s such a great looking motor I really want to get this figured out.
