I just got a decent 1957 Johnson javelin 35 on the back of a fairly good older prince craft. The motor looks good cosmetically, on the outside, one mouse nest and a bit of cosmetic damage on the power head, though no wires chewed. Hopefully will be able to make it go.
The question, this likely would be a six volt system for electric ignition on it? Would that be a safe assumption?
Be careful with the hood! The plastic "sea horse" on the front is made of "unobtanium" and the chrome pieces are too! Unfortunately The original owner of mine wasn’t careful……
I thought you had bought them all too Chris! But luckily I had an agent find one in Eastern ontario. I likely will need some help and maybe some parts to get it going strong.
Cosmetically it is pretty good, the badge is a little cracked but the guy had a spare in good shape that he had bought at some time and threw it in on the transaction.
I’ve decided to sell my 57 Golden Javelin, as I’m in the process of doing another one. Just needs lite service, as it has been a display motor for the last two years. Price is $1800.00 and prefer local pickup. Pictures available via Iphone.
I have one I haven’t run since 1998. I used it on a fishing boat quite a lot when I was poorer. I just can’t make myself sell it. I know as soon as I do, a perfect boat for it will fall in my lap.
