The gear case was missing the gears and lower half. I found a gear case that looks to be from a 63-64 75hp v4. It looks to have a longer drive shaft and different length shift rod. 1: are these parts interchangeable and 2: is there a special tool to open the gear case in the front since it’s not a split case?

Say what? The 50 and 75hp gearcases are totally different. An exception might be the 50hp case was revived as a heavy duty 60hp in the 1960s

Yes I know they are different but I was told by several people that the 60 and 75 manual shift from early 60’s will fit and have a slimmer design. The one I picked up is missing gear case foot and gears and I know my ability to find a 58 50 hp foot with gears is probably impossible. So my next feat is to see about finding something else that fits.

The fat 50 that is on the cover of the Antique Outboarder January looks to me like it has a 75 gear foot on it.  Any body out there have any information on that baby?   It must be an improvement in performance and maybe economy.

If anyone has info, that’d be greatly appreciated. The mounting holes line up, the cavitation plate does extend further, the exhaust exits the same spot and the foot itself is sleeker.

If this is a foot that will fit, I would just like a little info on the proper way to open it up since this will be the first time working on a non split gear case.

Yes a 60hp / 75hp gearcase will fit and work if you want to replace the whole thing as a complete unit

Well that didn’t work. Those aren’t the pictures I posted.
