You could probably pick up a good pressure tank at a local meet for less than the conversion.

Go to the home page, https://aomci.org/ and look at the "Upcoming Events"
section and find a club meet near you.
I don’t think I’ve been to a meet where there wasn’t at least one tank for sale.
As far as fixing a leaky pressure tank, I wouldn’t take a chance.
        But that’s just my opinion.
        Good Luck.

If you are going to buy a newer bypass cover, use the 18-7351 fuel pump that I posted earlier

If you are going to drill and tap your bypass cover, use the Mikuni pump that you posted. You would use a 5/16″ drill and a 1/8″ NPT tap.

It kind of sounds like you don’t know what that is. It might be easier for you to bite the bullet and get the bypass cover and 18-7351. Besides, that would make it “Factory”

Thanks for the measurements, Frank. I have done tap and die jobs on things id rather not mention…lol like broken bolts down deep in engine blocks that when i recall them, i still cringe…haha so this looks a bit like fun. i just like the option of being able to go back to stock on things.

with that being said would the above bypass cover work on my engine?

I really can’t say for certain. There were some differences down through the years. Screw size for one (#10 vs 1/4"). Distance the pump stands out from the cylinder for another. However the distance thing certainly wouldn’t be an issue on your motor. There is enough room under your hood to do almost anything as long as it is not illegal or immoral.

thanks again. yes. somebody mentioned an electric pump which i believe on outboards is illegal (Coast Guard). Also i will have kids on the boat, sparks and gas… nope.

I did look at the meets and there is one close (meaning like 2.5 hours away) sometime in the summer, but this will be on the water before them 😀

as far as fixing a leaky pressure tank. I would have some professional help. my buddy owns a fab shop and if i catch him at the right time he likes having fun.

I have a pressure tank that had a leek and was brased. Has not leaked in 10 years.

I’ve used a lawn mower fuel pump like this one:

                  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015HJFXK0?psc=1

Hard to beat the price for replacement.

Go to one of the AOMCI meets and u almost always find a 2 line tank for sale and at a reasonable price that would save us some hassle. The tanks u see on ebay are way over priced, and really don’t sell.
