Glad you enjoyed the meet, Jeff!!! I’ve never been to a Florida meet myself and just couldn’t swing it today. I hope to make the Suwanee River meet some year as it is held in the spring, right when I am getting tired of old man winter. Speaking of which, it’s back up to Michigan tomorrow. As usual, I enjoyed my visit to the 27th state and hope to be back soon.

Good luck with the motor, Jeff. It is in great hands now!

I am useless when it comes to refinishing. But, you may find a much nicer used hood on ebay, or perhaps at one of the meets. You could also put a want add on our classifieds.
Nonetheless, the answer to your question is yes. The original color paint and decals can be obtained. Be very careful with those plastic emblems though, they are tough to find and usually command big money.

Well, I got GOOD NEWS from Steve in Riverview!! He called me today and said that my engine started right up with a little sanding on the points and that it ran VERY well. He said that it had good compression and that he was going to rebuild the carb, put in new coils and replace the water pump. He was able to get the shifter and tiller throttle handle to loosen up and said that it looked like they were never lubricated properly. I’m really excited about getting a 56 year old engine running again after 22 years of sitting in the garage.

              Jeff,

That is good news. Those 5.5hp motors of that era are sweet running engines. Give them the proper fuel/oil mix and you cannot wear one out. I had a 59 that I let go a long time ago before I knew what I had!

              Enjoy your motor.
