I got this motor in a cardboard box in pieces. I got it all back together and restored. The ID tag plate looks to have been sand blasted and ruined. (see pic). Does anyone make re-pops of these? I would have no idea how to restore this. Can these be gotten at all? If so, where?

Your advice would be appreciated. Thank you

Maybe try a trophy shop which does engraving. We have a local trophy shop which advertises they can make items like this. I plan on visiting them some day to see if they can make repops for Johnson 300 and PO-15 carb emblems.

If I can find their ad, I’ll post it here.

EDIT: OK, I found a link to their ad. I think a shop like this could make anything we need for our outboards.

I don’t know how particular you are but if you want to experiment here is what I did on a Merc55 a few years ago. First paint the entire tag. Let the paint dry for a week at least. Then gently scrap the paint off the raised letters with a razor blade. (Hope the pictures will post) Have some before and after pics to show you.

Actually for a flat part, paint the part whatever the base color should be. Wait for it to cure, a week should be good, then create a sanding block larger than the plate and add 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper to the block and this will sand the high spots leaving the recessed areas with paint. You may need to move up to a more fine grit to get the desired finish. Use double sided sticky tape to hold the part to a flat surface.

I just checked my RDS-21 parts and the tag is crumpled
Maybe find one from a parts motor?

These ID plates that I have seen of this vintage had no paint.
