      Hi AOMCI Friends,

I just picked up this tiny motor and either i’m blind or there’s no model number on it. I’m not sure exactly what I have here but really want to learn more. If anyone knows what this motor might be (model/year), or if you can point me to an owners manual, can’t wait to try this baby in the Spring!

      Thank you!!!

basically known as JW  exccellent  trolling motors  being 2 cyl.  easy to fix up  ignition wise. , impellers etc… parts all available

carb kits available  if you need  gaskets etc… the float may be  dried up all depends who owned it and  what care it was given.

JW s span years of production.    Do try a compression test  before spending $$$$. PSI should go above  70 psi . report back with your findings if possible.

if mecanically sound it will last many more years.   look for a small plate with  mdl info

to service your JW  the johnson bible   available for 20$ will tell you and show you all you need to serviceit carb  … magneto… impeller  etc.. just download and print locally

        https://watercraftmanuals.com/outboard/johnson/manuals/johnson-302231.htm

expect  cracked coils  condensers to replace etc… all basic stuff incl. replacing plug wires  while you are at it !  fuel tank has a filter inside which may need cleaning by unscrewing the side fuel valve. points  can frequently just be  ” polished up

this book in KINDLE version is a good  one to have to !   paperback $$$ value  has exploded  unfortunately 🙁

Your data plate is missing. It was on the transom clamp where those two rivets are located. By the decals it looks like a 1961 model 3038 Lightwin

There should be a model number stamped on an aluminum welsh plug located somewhere on the powerhead.

There’s an online parts manual for your Evinrude Lightwin.

Confirming your motor, going by the decals,
                  is a 1961 Evinrude “Lightwin” Model # 3038.
The one I have runs great however it took me
awhile to discover the cause of an occasional
miss. Something you should check while preparing
to run yours that you wont find in a manual.

Other than tiller handle missing, looks like it’s in good shape.  I restored lot’s of those and sold them to local fishermen to finance my hobby.  Still have about 8 or 10 of them. Have fun!

                      OMG! X 10

                      $114 for a paperback?

I love accumulating information in book form; easy reference for my tinkering or just to read and assimilate.  But not at that price. Holy buckets of cash Batman.

I am going to take the kindle plunge tho, as I see there is an app that will allow me to read the book without an actual Kindle.

                      Thx

                      Best Regards

you will find most carbs on oldys are very similar ….. they come with ls hs adj. needles  or  fixed jets later one.

the johnson bible  covers  jw cd  ad  qd  fds early 50s  to mid 60s  carb   ignition & timing    ph   gear case etc… all inclusive  450+ pages for 20$

I printed mine double sided  spring bound with plastic cover sheets for flat easy reading .  Local print shops  can do all that for about 30$
