Picked up a 1961 Evinrude 75 with the Unicharger battery ignition. Any musings or tips? Also need a wiring diagram if someone has one.

June 20, 2019 at 8:03 pm #177679This motor will be replacing a 1965 75hp Selectric with a roached (!!!!!!) gearcase. Same motor except the gearcase? Parts is parts.

June 20, 2019 at 8:16 pm #177681Much is the same. But a lot of changes also. 1965 had all the electricals under the hood, no junction box. The hot-water choke was gone also (good riddance).

June 22, 2019 at 6:28 pm #177786Can the hot water choke be disabled or removed and the choke used manually? I’m already back there squeezing the primer bulb. Possibly a carb swap, running the ’65 carb and its 50:1 fixed jets?

June 22, 2019 at 9:59 pm #177804“Everybody” manually choked them. No modifications required. Just open the door and do it.
June 23, 2019 at 8:59 am #177834Got to get it off the floor and upright so I can get a better look at it. Thanks Frank and Garry.
