The subject motor came with a boat I purchased yesterday.
Do the 1962 Johnson & Evinrude’s of that year tout the
same power heads, gear cases, etc. as the Gale, so
I can use the Marineengine.com diagrams to figure
out what parts I may need? I gotta think the answer is “YES”
after looking at my photo again…… green Johnson throttle handle,
blue Evinrude gear case!http://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1962&hp=40
I peaked under the cowling but did not see an electric starter.
I may need two extra men and a small boy to start it.
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!

Nice looking motor. I believe the ’62 Gale does share most of the common replacement parts with the same year Johnson/Evinrude motors. Water pump, carb kit, coils, condensers, head gasket, etc. should be all the same.Bob

May 24, 2019 at 8:55 pm #175945Think of 1960’s J/E 40hp motors. Then think of their 33hp motors. Now morph them together and sort of come up with a Gale 40. I have the Gale parts list if you tell me what pages you want me to post.
May 24, 2019 at 9:16 pm #175947It has the old (non supet silent) single wall exhaust housing, so tbe waterpump housing and powerhead mounting gasket are different fromthe name brand 40hp. The 1972 40hp diagram on marineengine.com should be useful to get an idea of how it goes together (if not necedsarily for exact part numbets)

then I guess it would be nice to have the parts list sections on the items that are different. You would know
better than me what they are, but I gotta think the cowling section is one. Would there be others?

Don’t know if you have this, but here’s a source I’ve used before – they have some 1962 Gale 40hp parts listed here with links to Amazon and fleabay. You can also just find the appropriate part number here and buy at ME or elsewhere.Bob

40 hp that looks eerily similar to my 62 Gale Buccaneer 40D15B.
Viking calls their version 40D15V Deluxe Twin.
Perhaps there’s a digitized version of that manual floating around?Prepare to be boarded!
