Good eye Dave!  What carburetor would that crazy gasket actually fit on???

It fits early 1950’s 25hp motors

I’m assuming the early 25hp carbs had a similar idle passage (up through the side of the bowl into the side of the body), so how did that gasket seal up the passage on those engines?  Perhaps they had a different idle circuit passage?

Bob- I too, would definitely keep the original nozzle from your 28hp carb in place.

This will be a good lesson for all of us, surely an easy enough mistake to make, not that easy to diagnose.

Don, not only a good lessson for all, but a very expensive one as well.
I shot the proverbial parts canon at the old girl.
Looking for the problem, I replaced the fuel pump, hose from tank, coils, points,  condensers ……..all for a $3 gasket.
The only reason I didn’t replace the carb, was because I couldn’t find one.
Well at least she should be reliable on the lake this summer??
Again my thanks to Dave B for his sharp eye. I would have never figured it out.

Old ones had a brass tube sticking down into the float bowl to transport fuel up to the idle circuit.

                    Yep Frank that’s the one.
The diagram even shows the infamous half moon gasket.
Lesson learned…….double check all new purchased parts against the parts diagram.
                    Thanks again,

                    Bob D
