MY 65 goldenjet is a workhorse..have it on a 19ft sailboat and it pushes it with no problem..I have been using it everyday for the last 15 years..This past summer i trolled out of my mooring with my electric motor and when i got on the lake and fired it up just like usual. It started fine but when increased throttle it didnt move. My question is and i am no means a boat motor mechanic(just regular maintenance). Is there a shear pin that i may have broke off..If thats the case can they be ordered online. The motor is in top shape and it runs like a new one..If it could be something else would love to hear your answers..Thanks Dave

        Hi Dave,

You might have a look at this video.  These folks know what they are doing.  They talk about a neutral clutch being a culprit in their motor.

Look somewhere in the vicinity of the transom clamp – there may be a rubber nickel-size plug with a shear pin and cotter key.  Bet the pin is your problem.

Is it possible that you could have a mouse nest up inside the motor, that could be binding up the throttle linkege.

I found the problem..It was the shear pin that goes into the prop..My neighbor and I took a nail..cut it off and grinded it down to make a new one and it works perfect…Thanks for all the replies.
