After having the motor tipped way up to reinstall the lower unit,
this pin dropped out from somewhere, onto the floor. Guessing
it was something that was dropped in the lower motor cover / housing,
and never retrieved. It looks like something that would go on a carb
linkage, etc., but I could not spot anything missing anywhere,
nor can I spot this piece on the parts diagram.
Anyway, I got the new impeller and lower unit seals in,
and it seems to run good, pump water, and shift.
Hopefully my brother in law doesn’t get stranded on the lake
after the motor regrets not having said pin!Prepare to be boarded!
May 13, 2021 at 7:02 pm #238297My first guess was the guide pin for the recoil starter friction spring. But that didn’t pan out.

Thanks for thinking about it!
I’m delivering the motor to the brother in law Saturday.
If I don’t find a place for the pin before then, I’ll
tape it to the motor with a “spare parts” note!Prepare to be boarded!

Perhaps this motor has been upgraded. It seems to idle adequate.
How would one tell if it’s been upgraded?
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!

I don’t think so, but I’ll look at the one that’s on it.
Last night I went though all the parts diagrams for this motor,
using the browser’s “Find” function for “Pin”, and I didn’t
find any matches for the pin in question.
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!
