Hello all, I just came across a 67 Mercury 6hp that was used one year and forgotten about. It’s in amazing condition cosmetically. I plan to take care of all the usual suspects mechanically that I do on my Omc Motors but this is my first Mercury. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you Dave

Thank you Dave. Will I need any specialized tools to do the basic tune up, water pump ect?

NO .straight forward 2 nuts pulls the lower unit off 2 nuts pulls the water pump apart. has points under the flywheel.

Great! Thanks so much. Really looking forward to getting it going. Motor is an absolute time capsule. Amazing shape with all original paperwork. Got it from the original owner. Thanks again Dave

Great running motors will idle smooth down to where you can almost count revolutions. Easy to work on too but do not have to very often very reliable

how is it motors multiply when the garage lights get
                  turned off?

Take care to lube the pump’s water tube grommet and put the lower unit back on nice and straight or the water tube can be bent. Impellers are only reliable for about two years. After that, it’s a crap shoot. Really good fresh water motor. Salt water, not so much, with the steel shafts. I would check/change gear oil after every use, to keep its mint condition mint. I’m very envious of it. It sounds really nice!!

                    Long live American manufacturing!

Another thought, use John Deer Corn Head Grease in the lower. it is much better protects better than the oil and stays in better.
