I cleaned up this motor and it will run ok until it gets warm. I’m thinking at least one of the coils need to be changed out but I can’t find any (part number A12231). Anyone have any suggestions.

Model number would help. I suspect it was made by Chrysler (??). Try a Mercury dealer. Mercury was the last owner of Chrysler.

Frank, model number is 27906A made by Chrysler. And it looks like Laing’s may have one, but for $125, wow, don’t know if I want it that bad.

Buc, it looks close to the OMC coils. Here’s a couple of pictures with an old OMC coil next to the ones on the motor. It’s only slightly bigger and I think there would be room to get it in there. Are you suggesting to drill and tap some holes to try and make it work.

In some cases, a person can remove a good OMC coil from it’s laminates,
and install it on the original laminates of the motor you’re fixing.
Just depends “if” and how much the original laminates may need
to machined to fit the OMC coil, and what clearance issues, or
issues routing the spark plug wire.

That is a Wico mag. Wico condensers have a known reliability problem. Just sayin—

EDIT: This is a Wico condenser that I tore apart. You can see the black burn marks where it was arcing between the foil roll and the end cap.

I had the same issue with a `66 20hp Chrysler. Replaced the condensers and the problem went away. Points need to be polished to a chrome finish too.

Do you think it would pose a problem if I replaced these condensers with some OMC condensers?

Not sure of the MFD rating of your old Wico condensers, but if you
find a part number on one, someone may be able to look it up.
That said, if you can make an OMC fit, I’d try it.
The bolt down hole may be “off”, and the OMC lead wire shorter,
but perhaps both issues can be overcome.

I used the Vishay 1839HQ,220nF on mine.
