I’ve looked for manuals and I’ve found one listed for model E6SLCO.  On looking closely at my ID tag I’ve convinced myself that it starts with E6SL…. Also, I acquired this motor last year with my 1985 sailboat.  The “S” in the model number stands for “sail” and the “L” means 20”, so that might be the manual I need.

        And “CO” stands for 85

OK, well I wouldn’t get the one for the 85 models because the carburetor and sync procedure is completely different.

          Here is one for a 1988 6hp:

OMC Johnson Evinrude 507659 Service Manual Colt JR – 8 hp outboard 1988 model CC | eBay

Probably a better choice than the 1985 manual.

Don’t forget to post a complete sideview shot of the engine so we can determine what shaft length it is…

              UPDATE:

I’ve located the “nickel sized freeze plug” located on the block that that Retiredoz referred to.  The model ID # is E6SLCDE.

So according to the model number designation legend I’ve found that means:

                Evinrude 6HP Sail Long (20”) 1986

I found an online pdf manual for a 1986 6HP but I can’t seem to post the link to it.

I guess we don’t need the complete side view shot of the engine now since I have the model ID, but I’ll post it anyway.

Is there a secret to posting a link to a page?  I’ve tried a bunch of times with no success.  I’be used the link icon above the text box and it appears as if it will work but then it does not post.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

                        thanks,
