      Hey Fleetwin,

      nice of you to stick with this.  So I took her to a local outfit and they serviced it for $137 CAD.  As far as parts go, they replaced a spark plug.  They say it runs well now.  I plan to test it before I go putting it on my boat.  They said 50:1 is the appropriate mix.  I’ve attached a pic of the oil I have.  I’m going to look up how much to put in 10 litres of gas (2.6 gallons).

        Of course I can calculate it myself but I’m so green I don’t mind a little confirmation from an online premix calculator.   I could easily put the decimal in the wrong place.

        200 millilitres of oil for 10 litres of gas.  I’ve had the oil I posted a pic of since last year.  The gas is fresh – purchased today.

        Wouldn’t mind hearing any feedback you might have.

        cheers,

        Pete

            10L            is 10,000ml…. divide by 50====>  200 ml

            2.6 US gal    x 128 oz ===>332.8 oz.   divide by 50===>6.6oz

            2.6 imp. gal x 160 oz ===> 416 oz  divide by 50===>  8.32oz

              Cool!  Sounds like you found a good repair shop that was honest and reasonable.  Plan on doing a water pump job next winter if you plan to keep the engine for all the reasons I mentioned.

              OK, well the Merc oil looks fine.  You would use approximately 1/2 pint of that oil mixed the 2.6 gallons of fuel.  Please remember to use the fuel stabilizer as well.

              I’m glad this engine is working out for you.  I know I presented many “cons” to these engines, but I still like them.  A little extra maintenance will keep it running for years.

                Thanks for all the advice, Fleetwin.  I will add a fuel stabilizer later.  Going to give her a test run now.

                cheers,

                Peter
