Hey guys. I’ve started working on my ’71 Chrysler 8 horse but I’m having an issue with the points. It’s a Wico mag and I noticed that there is very little spring pressure holding the points closed. Bending the spring tends to make it worse. Does anyone know where and which way to bend the spring to increase the contact pressure?

Looks like one would need to bend the half attached to the nylon block,
“back”, toward the end of the bolt where the wires attach.

        Prepare to be boarded!

Pinching the spring so it is tight against the moving arm should increase the tension. That spring can be damaged by prying the points open too far to check there condition.

Ben D. showed me on FB one way to do it but by that time I’d experimented a bit more and tweaked the spring a bit next to the plastic insulating block. That seemed to work as the motor has great spark now.

You could stick a couple sets of ATOM modules in and ditch the points and caps.

I could do that but this motor has all good parts under the flywheel now so I’ll save the ATOMS for something special!
