I have a running evinrude mate , however I’m not sure how much water should be coming out of the 2 small holes in the leg, can anyone enlighten me about this or is there a tell tale temperature at the block that says it’s time for an impeller

If you hold your hand behind the holes while running, your hand should quickly become wet from the mist being expelled (hopefully) from the holes. Ideally, you should be able to hold your thumb on the side of the block where the cooling water is, while it’s running. I am not talking about the head. The head will always be too hot to hold your thumb on. That is normal.

        Long live American manufacturing!

The exhaust cover/manifold will be hot as well.  Probably a good idea to do the water pump job even if the pump is operating OK.  There is a new/improved water pump kit available for these models, very expensive but worth it.  You can still get the original impeller and aluminum cover as well.  Be sure to lube those driveshaft splines liberally with OMC moly lube to prevent rust

They are much like the 3hp twin OMC models when it comes to the water pump discharge. They don’t really pee like some outboards, they have a mist with droplets coming out of the holes. If you’re used to the obvious pee tubes, it can be unnerving at first.
