Thanks, I’m waiting on a carb rebuild kit. I’ve worked on tecumseh motors and the carbs before so I’m hoping for some familiarity with this model. The fuel pump element does surprise me as I haven’t seen that dual input carb before and only have experience with built-in tanks. I’ll let everyone knows how it goes. Still trying to get a free minute to get back to the shed to look at the model number.
June 21, 2020 at 11:09 am #206277Finally got time to get back to the shed. 217/58586-0.
The ID plate was in the transom bracket area. I wouldn’t have looked there at all.
June 21, 2020 at 11:57 am #206319Well; there you go! That’s a magneto motor so you should be able to get it running with just basic inspection and cleaning. You might not even need parts if you are careful when you take the carb apart; just try and save the gaskets and such.
SEARS still has the parts diagrams up! Imagine that; I wonder how much longer all that information will be available….given SEARS’s state of affairs. Someday the plug will be pulled on that Server up in the cloud that’s storing all those diagrams….
I went and made a PDF for your Parts. It’s attached.
Let us know what happens!
June 22, 2020 at 12:14 pm #206398Awesome! Thank you! This is going to be one of those “long term projects” where its probably a week at best between activities. It look almost a week just to pull the motor out and look at the model number, let alone try taking it apart.
June 27, 2020 at 2:56 pm #206858Hello guys, so I somehow broke the valve cover assembly that connects the gas tank to the carb. Any suggestions on where I can get a replacement? I think it’s called a valve cover assembly and part 632338 Tecumseh.
The part that first into the fuel line snapped off into the old fuel line when I tried replacing the fuel line.
Shaking head in shame… Lol. I think I could have gotten this thing started today since the carb was actually super clean when I took it apart.

It’s part 27.
June 27, 2020 at 3:02 pm #206862It’s part 27.
June 28, 2020 at 6:14 am #206895I know I don’t have one. If you have the part number, I would first try an eBay search for the part, then the whole carb. I have a sneaking suspicion that you’ll eventually end up with another entire parts motor, with that one part on it. Lol.
Long live American manufacturing!

June 28, 2020 at 10:16 am #206916JB Weld Repair Perhaps? That stuff works wonders.
Alternately….try lawn mower shops. Most have boneyards with lots of Tecumseh stuff kicking around,
Alternately….an AOMCI meet.
Alternately….this guy but he wants $$$$ much more than I would pay….

June 28, 2020 at 1:42 pm #206990Thanks, I might just keep this around as a parts motor or try to cobble an aftermarket carb together and see if works as a gravity feed tank only system. I have a running 3 HP Sears that works with an internal tank as well – has a lot of the same parts. I was so close, lol.
