      I AM LOOKING FOR ANY KIND OF SERVICE MANUAL AND A SOURCE FOR PARTS. NEED TO REPAIR LOWER UNIT. ARTIC CAT IMPORTED SUZUKI ENGINES DURING THAT TIME PERIOD. THEY WENT BANKRUPT, SO INFO IS VERY SCARCE. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THE LOWER UNIT LOOKS VERY MUCH LIKE A 50,S 60,S JOHNSON DESIGN. SUZUKI DOES NOT LIST A 20HP ENGINE DURING THOSE YEARS.

        I have some knowledge of the Artic Cat company which was spun off from Polaris by one of the founders but until your question did not know anything about outboard motors. The proper name for the motors based on what I could find is Artic Cat Spirit Motors and prior to 1978 were powered by Kawasaki and had problems. They shifted to Suzuki w/fewer problems. Google up with "Spirit" and there are things on Amazon and e-bay for sale. If you live in Minnesota , especially northern MN the home of Polaris/Artic Cat is where you could find dealer/parts. Suggest you get in touch w/AOMCI MN members..best

          My Intertec Outboard Motor service manual 11th Edition has a section on pre-83 Suzuki DT20, made ’77-’79. Appears very similar to the Spirit versions.
          And from the drawing I’d say the lower unit is an OMC copy.

              Scroll through the list of makers/manufacturers

              Search by type, brand, etc. They are all in PDF format so you can save them for future reference.

                I hate revive a 2 year old post, but has anybody come up with info for these motors? i have just picked up a 1978 Spirit 20hp.

                  Suzuki does list 20 HP outboards from 1977-1979. Go to http://www.Boats.net and click on Suzuki. Then click on any of the years 1977, 8, or 9 and the Suzuki 20 HP models will come up. Clicking on the models will get you to parts. There are exploded views with parts lists. I’ve been told that some of the Suzuki parts will fit the Arctics and a lot of parts won’t. I too, have an Arctic Spirit outboard, (mine is a 16 HP) but I have not tried to get it running yet. Arctic Spirits were offered from 1977-1981 – see list here:

                    I repaired one of these for a friend. Very hard to find parts. Here is one place that had some parts and knowledge about part substitution.
