Just bought this motor, manual start. I went to M E ,for parts lookup, it does not show this model as Evinrude, but as a Johnson. Is this due to it being Canadian made? I assume the 2 brands use identical parts PN# wise, other than the parts breakdown categories shows a 25 hp and 35 lower unit and 25 and 35 exhaust housing/mid section. Just wondering why they used both LU on that model? My motor has the 35 lower unit. The Made in Canada id tag and welch plug have the C as the first digit on the serial # . I assume there is a interesting story here.
Compression is 115 on the bottom , top 122 after 5 pulls. Jim PSB"Some people want to know how a watch works, others just want to know what time it is"
Robbie RobertsonApril 10, 2017 at 11:47 am #55833OK, well I think this is just a mistake/omission on ME’s part. OMC surely made the evinrude 35s in rope start in 1980. I’m not sure just what you are asking, but the 1980 25s used the old style split lower unit with the larger CI powerhead during these years.
April 10, 2017 at 2:30 pm #55839Jim; OMC has made a zillion variations of those model engines. The mid-section is different for the split line gearcase vs the thru hub gearcase. It was many years later before they finally put the thru hub gearcase on all of the motors. The split line gearcase was never offered on the 30,35hp motor. At one point OMC offered about 20 factory built models of the 25hp alone. Crazy inventory requirements! Tiller models, electric start tiller models, remote electric start no rewind, long shaft as well as short in each. It got pretty crazy. They also offered a bunch of HP options. 18, 20, 25, 28SPL, 30, 35. I’m sure ME just abbreviates their listings from time to time. As long as they give you a representative model of either JO/EV the parts will be the same. Of course cosmetic (decals, emblems, etc) parts would be different. You can always look those up at OMC SystemMatched.com. Then go to OEM schematics & pick you product lineup. I believe every model is listed there for 1968 to 2011 at least.

Robbie RobertsonApril 10, 2017 at 5:28 pm #55847I just went to look up some trolling motor parts and OMC SystemMatched parts lookup doesn’t show all the models anymore either? Seems to be about like ME. Oh well so much for that idea. They do list the trolling motor parts though.

Since the Johnson and Evinrude are the same, there’s no sense listing the same parts twice.
