      Hi all,
I was given the 1984 Mopar 9.9 outboard, This was an Eastern Wa. Motor never seen salt water. Cleaned and gapped the plugs, filed the original points flat and set at .020 , gave the Cylinders a shot of MMO , carburetor looked clean so gave it a mouthful of two stroke, it started on the second pull,. Shut it off, have to change the gear oil and get the correct fuel connector, then I’ll run it in the tank to see if it pumps water and the carburetor works.
Does anyone know where to source new decals and it is missing the plug that is in the lower cowl above the fuel connector.
This is a low serial number motor, my research says in 84 they started with 1001 , this is serial number 1005.

Your luck is just a tad better than mine. I was given a 15 Force, which is extremely similar, and it probably cost me about a grand to make it work, by the time I was done. (That’s just the parts, from Marine Engine and eBay. I know, shame on me; but I really wanted one.) Anyway, here’s the plug from Marine engine. You might find it someplace else, too.

          Bill,
I saw those plugs on Marine Engine site last night, I found a pair of 5/8 plastic plugs at Lowes for under $2 , I’ll pick them up today and see how they work, Marine Engine wants $1.38 plus $8.95 to ship the little feller. 🧐🧐🧐

I needed a replacement plastic plug for the Chrysler 9.9 , Marine Engine wants $1.38 plus $8.95 to ship, add tax it’s $12 for one.I found these at Lowes for $1.95 for two, Exact same plug made by Hillman. See attached pictures.
So there is your useless tech tip of the day.🤪🤪👍

That’s good. I know….That $8.95 shipping charge from Marine Engine is a deal breaker, a lot of times. I also thought maybe you could use that Mercury Marine part number and find one on eBay, with free shipping. Sometimes, you can get 25, 50 or even 100 of some small item like that, from McMaster Carr, for the same price as one or two of the OEM part. It takes some careful research, though. The real take-away here though, is to note just how much Chrysler and Force stuff Marine Engine has. It’s quite a lot!

I have used McMaster Carr for a few items like shims and O’rings. They have a good selection of stuff.

I found some Force decals for the 9.9 motor, they aren’t exact but they will work, so I have the motor naked except for the US Marine decal, not sure if I’ll keep that on there yet. The cowl turned out ok , slight fading but it’s 37 years young too. I have the impeller, carburetor kit, fuel pump kit coming next week to finish the motor and test it. Then move it on to a new home hopefully.

What’s the story on that Chevy 3100 pickup in the background?

                      Bob,
That’s the 1955 Chevy Rusted Junk Garage shop truck, it sets next to the 57 Chevy.
