A friend just acquired a 1984 Mercury 3.5 that looks to be in great shape. It starts and runs, but I can see no cooling telltale and do not know where to look or what to expect. I have not run it for more than 30 seconds at a time.

It is in a barrel with about 6" of water above the anti-cav plate.
