Howdy, boys:
I’ve got an ’84 Johnson 35. The phenolic “water tube guide” for the inner exhaust is no longer available (Part # 321513/0321513. I’m sure I can find one somewhere, but the thought occurred to me to go to a 1985-86 0330547 inner exhaust, or an 87-88 0330648 inner exhaust housing, which does NOT require a phenolic guide (which melts). This will take a different water pump tube, which I already have.
What I don’t know is if this is a feasible swap – because the powerhead base gasket changes between ’84 and ’85-90. So, would I use an ’84 base gasket? Or, an ’85-90 base gasket?
If anyone knows about a retro update on the inner exhaust housing for these motors, I’d appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
