Rick,
I’m glad to see all worked out. Just so others understand here are a few picks of the exhaust cover in question. Top picture I have a screwdriver in tel tale on bottom of powerhead and on the right the exhaust cover with screwdriver in tel tale passage. As you can see the small strip to the right doesn’t have much room for water and can get plugged easily. Sorry but it’s just the e purist in me that doesn’t like the 2nd tel tale. I’ll send you a pm with my number would like to talk to you.

webmaster@aomci.orgJanuary 10, 2017 at 2:49 am #50767I believe that the tel tale, makes a 90 degree, bend about 1 inch up the output hole, and this is why, I can not unplug it. I tried everything, that I could and have keep trying, but it will not open up. In order to fix it, I would need to remove the power head, and then the exhaust plate. But in the past, I have had the bolts break off when removing the plate, I and did not want to take that chance, also having a tel tale at the top of the power head assures me that the upper cylinder is getting cooling water! The later model Mercury Mark 450 had a pre taped hole in the top, right where I put mine, and on that motor, i just removed the plug and put in the 90 degree brass fitting and had 2 tel tales!! I have cleared at least 10 stopped up tel tales, and I was really surprised that this motor did not clear, as it has never been apart, to get sealer etc in it. Maybe someday it will clear on its own. My name is Rick Conn and my cell is 303 819 4336 and direct email is conn356@ecentral.com. I really only work on the 55 thru the Mercury 500’s. Use to do Mark 25’s but not any more. This motor with the new tel tale, is a grea motor, runs like a top! Thanks for your help, I do have a restored Pen Yann Swift 13 ft, XGS stepped 13 ft, with a Tee Nee trailer that we restored. I winter in Fl and summer in Foxburg PA, Also have 2 Feathercrafts! I still am not sure how the tel tale exits the cooling jacket, but I do know their is a 90 Degree bend, that my wire can not get thur, and I have put lots of air presser in the tel tale hole also with no results! Thanks Rick Conn
September 5, 2022 at 7:46 am #265556Morning I am working on a 14ft alumacraft with a Mark 450 with Q tower and quickie. I have a minnie jack plate been designing and revamping this for several months in between Chemo sessions when I feel up to it. I also have hydros and Konigs and super speedmaster hydros. This is just a funnproject, but we a re pretty confident this will run very well in the speed department. I want to reroute the telltale can you send me pics of just where you put yours? On one of my hydros, shovel nose 80HP with super speedmaster I actually have a tube that runs along side comes up next to cockpit points out to side so I have constant visual of it. Thanks
